The high Arctic is an extreme habitat. The film crew spent two weeks traveling by snowmobile in the east of Spitsbergen’s main island, hoping to capture exciting footage of polar bears hunting, duels over a female, and, with a lot of luck, even polar bear mating.
“Dogs, ice, and white bears” are as much a part of a year in the high Arctic as the polar night and the midnight sun. Wildlife filmmaker Kai Schubert and his team are repeatedly drawn to Spitsbergen. Whether by dog sled in winter or under sail in summer, the journey itself, in addition to unique nature and wildlife observations, is always part of a great adventure.
