Svalbard: Life on the Edge

Take a trip just north of normal.

ABOUT

Longyearbyen on Svalbard is the northernmost town in the world and home to an international community of residents who have all chosen to live in one of the most remote and extreme places on the planet.

This is a place like no other, a place where you are not allowed to be born or die, carrying a gun outside of town is mandatory and where polar bears outnumber people. The residents are a surprising and fascinating bunch: there’s Mary Ann the B&B owner with a penchant for collecting animal penises, Mark the ex-LA times crime writer who now writes about rogue polar bears and lost snowmobiles and Christine and Grace a young British couple for whom being 1000km from the nearest city is not remote enough and who are learning what it takes to survive moving out of town into the extreme wilderness.
